YXZ Fault-Code Quick Reference

Use this guide as a starting point when a diagnostic code appears on your Yamaha YXZ. Record the exact code before disconnecting the battery or beginning repairs.

Important: A fault code identifies the system that needs testing; it does not always mean the named component should be replaced. Inspect wiring, connectors, grounds, battery voltage, hoses, and related components first. For detailed testing and repair procedures, consult the correct Yamaha service manual or a qualified technician.

Engine and ECU Fault Codes

Code What it means
Gear-position sensor circuit is open or shorted. (Applies to specified manual-shift models.)
The ECU is not receiving a normal crankshaft-position signal.
Intake-air-pressure sensor 1 circuit is open or shorted.
Intake-air-pressure sensor 1 hose may be clogged, loose, or disconnected.
Throttle-position sensor circuit is open or shorted.
Coolant-temperature sensor circuit is open or shorted.
Intake-air-temperature sensor circuit is open or shorted.
Intake-air-pressure sensor 2 circuit is open or shorted.
Intake-air-pressure sensor 2 hose may be clogged, loose, or disconnected.
A rollover/latch-up condition was detected.
Ignition-coil 1 primary circuit is open or shorted.
Ignition-coil 2 primary circuit is open or shorted.
Ignition-coil 3 primary circuit is open or shorted.
Idle Speed Control system fault. Listen for ISC operation to help determine whether the ISC unit or another component is at fault.
Fuel-injector circuit is open or shorted.
Lean-angle sensor circuit is open or shorted.
Speed-sensor signal is missing, or a neutral/clutch-switch circuit fault was detected (model dependent).
Incorrect supply voltage is reaching the fuel injector or fuel pump.
The ECU encountered an EEPROM read/write error.
Charging-system voltage is outside the normal range.
ECU memory fault. The machine may not display a fault-code number in some cases.
Oil-pressure-switch circuit is open or shorted.
PCV-solenoid circuit is open or shorted.
