What This Video Covers
This two-part shop walkthrough shows a Yamaha YXZ1000R throttle that does not return normally. The inspection identifies interference between a throttle-body clamp and the throttle linkage as the cause of the high-idle concern.
- Recognize a throttle or idle that does not return normally.
- Inspect the throttle-body clamps, linkage, and surrounding area for contact or binding.
- Correct the interference and confirm unrestricted linkage movement.
- Verify normal throttle return before starting or operating the machine.
Code 37 — Choose the Correct Diagnostic Path
The factory definition for Code 37 is that engine speed is high while the engine is idling. The Yamaha procedure first uses diagnostic code D54 to command the Idle Speed Control (ISC) stepper. Listen and feel for ISC operation, then follow the matching path below.
Path 1 — ISC Operates
If the ISC operates during the D54 test, look outside the ISC electrical circuit. With the engine off, verify that the throttle valve and linkage close fully. Inspect the throttle-body clamps, throttle cable, hoses, and nearby components for contact or binding. The video above demonstrates a rotated clamp interfering with the linkage.
Correct any interference and confirm unrestricted throttle return before starting the machine. If the high idle remains, continue with the applicable Yamaha service-manual checks rather than assuming the ISC unit has failed.
Path 2 — ISC Does Not Operate
If the ISC does not operate during the D54 test, follow the ISC-system path. Inspect the ISC connector and terminal condition, check the related wiring for continuity or shorts, and test the ISC stepper using the applicable Yamaha service information. Treat the ECU as the final possibility after the connector, harness, and ISC unit have been checked.
Important: Code 37 identifies a high-idle condition and a diagnostic direction; it does not prove that the throttle-body clamp, ISC unit, or ECU is defective.
